    Andriy,

First of all, thank you so much for your blog! I just started working with OBIEE, loved it, and your posts are so handy!

Could you please share your knowledge regarding messages that apear on charts in OBIEE?
For example, when I have data with zeros in a column – chart can’t be created, of course. And when users click on “Select view” and they choose Chart – they have this message on the chart: “Couldn’t Create Image”. I’d like to modify this message for end users.

If you can help me with this problem – that would be great! Thanks!

    Hi Andriy,

Thanks for the information you posted on your blog. Its really very informative and usful to me. I have one question. Is it possible to freez one of the graph ( or table) in Dashboard (its like two frame). What I would like to see is top around 20% of screen frozen (static) with one graph. Rest 80% will have more graph and user can scroll down. If you have idea how to do and could you please share with me, that would be great.

    Thanks
    Piyush

    Andriy,

Great site. Is there any truth to the rumour that Metricsphere is merging with The EB Group?

    Hi Simon,

    Thanks for stopping by.

I’d not know anything about Metricsphere merger. I think you’d better ask Jeff McQuigg or someone more familiar with the matter.

    Good luck

    Piyush,

I’d think that it’s an extremely difficult task to bring in more frames into current design. That level of customization would require extensive editing of Oracle’s xml and css files and could actually be against their TOS.

    I hope you can find a work-around.

Do you know if it is possible to specify down to the view when configuring a the “column format” “Value Interaction”? so I am specifying a value interaction drill to a detailed report and I want to specify the view(ie table, pivot table, compound view…) otherwise it appears to grab one of the views which may or may not be the view of the data I want the drill to render.

    Robert,

Have you tried a compound view? For some reason, I suspect that the view by default would be a table view anyway. I remember seeing something like that in metalink.

I suggest you check out standard documentation first. Also, you can read OTN and some blogs from the blogroll.

    Dear blogger,
I have an issue where a new admin made changes to our security in dev and made a mess. I cleaned all of it, except one issue; All non-admin users are unable to see the links to the dashboard on top of the screen. They can still access them via hyperlinks and read them without a problem, but they cannot see them. I opened all the privilages to them, but they still cannot see them. The admin group can see the links without an issue.
    Thanks for your help!

    @Gil Rozner
    Gil,

My first advice – make changes again and restart all services (BI, Presentation).

Second thing to do would be checking settings again in your Admin -> Manage Privileges Make sure that Access tab has Everyone in properties (except for “Access to Administration”). Also scroll down to see that your Subject Areas have Everyone there as well.

Restart. If that didn’t help – I suggest checking properties of individual Dashboards in “Manage Dashboards” menu. The padlock icon is for security settings.

Let me know if that helped or not – if not, it’d be helpful to know which changes to security were made.

Hi Andriy, Very useful blog, keep it up!

Perhaps you can help me out with my problem?

My second Fact table does not seem to be recognized as such in the Answers Pivot view. First time I encounter this behavior. Here is an example.

In the Admin, I have one Fact table “Sales” and one dimension table “Products” mapped in both the Physical (by Foreign key) and the Logical (by complex joint) layers.

While creating a report in Answers, when I drug and drop “Product Name” and “Dollars” columns into the Pivot view, it works just fine. The “Dollars” automatically go in the “Measures” box and the “Product Name” goes into “Rows” box.

However, when I create an identical second Fact table in Admin – “Last Year Sale” and map it to the same “Product” dimension, it becomes yellow but does not behave as fact table in Answers! Now, when I create a new report in Answers, the “Dollars” column from “Last Year Sale” refuses to go into “Measures” box and jumps into the “Rows” box instead.

The results get displayed correctly though.. However, when I try dragging the “Dollars” into “Measurements” box where it belongs, all the values disappear from the “Dollars” column on preview, while “Products” column remains populated with values.

Any ideas will be highly appreciated! Thank you very much!

    Roger

    Roger,

Without getting too deep into specifics of your OBIEE mode. I think you’re trying to use an older way of modeling PY reports. I suggest you look into time-series functions (AGO, TODATE) – as they’re the preferred way of dealing with historic metrics in OBIEE.

Also, check everything, starting from physical tables

  21. Roger
    October 11th, 2009 at 12:26 | #21

Andriy – thank you for a quick response!

Interestingly enough, this case has nothing to do with any functions, table joins and so on.

Actually, now I can’t get even a single fact table to pivot!! I made a new .RDS file in Admin from scratch, with just two tables in it: “Products” dimension (“Product_Id”, “Product_Name”) and “Dollars” facts (“Product_ID”, “Dollars”). They join on “Product_ID” as a foreign key in phisical layer and as a “complex join” in the business layer.

My report has only 2 columns: “Product_Name” from “Products” dimension and “Dollars” from facts. Ana I can’t make the “Dollars” go into the “Measures” box in the pivot view!! When I grug it there, the “Dollars” column is loosing all the values on the preview!

Perhaps you may have some clues as to what to look at to debug it??

    Thank you very much!

    Roger

    Andriy –

Hi – I have a question concerning training/learning OBIEE. I have many years as an Oracle consultant using Oracle Developer Suite, PL/SQL, interface and conversion work, Oracle ERP Suite, etc. I have always been working in this area, but would like to train myself in OBIEE. I have recently been laid off and feel that I need to beef up my skill set.

Do you have any recommendations? I see some things on the OTN website, etc.

Thank you in advance for your time and response.

    Hi,

I am very new to OBIEE .I have a question regarding alerts. We have displayed all the alerts in the dashboard. On clicking the alert, it pops up the applet and shows the relevant records. I would like to know if the records can be displayed in the dashboard, without clicking the alerts. say, i would like to display to the alert as header section and beneath it all the records of that alert.

    Thanks in advance

We are building a dashboard page for our Top 10 Customers. The compound layout view consists of a chart (bubble) and a table. When we choose to drill into the customer hierarchy, via the bubble chart or the table we receive this error:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 59031] A query cannot contain multiple instances of TopN or BottomN. (HY000)
When I remove the Chart and have only the table, I can successfully drill down to the lower level of the customer hierarchy. Is this a bug in the software or just a limitation when using the TopN function in your answers query.

    Thanks,

    Mary

    Hi

I’ve created a number of ibots to deliver a few different reports to user destination of interactive dashboard. The ibot runs, publishes the link and I can view the output with no problems. The problem is the output opens in a new window with no option to download, print etc. Am I missing a step along the way?

    Hi,

Thanks for your posts – i have reviewed some of them and they have helped me get a basis using OBI.

I am currently trying to combine 3 data sources in the physical layer into one in the logical layer. I have done this by creating 3 logical sources to the physical layer. It seems to work fine except that the report only pulls information from the first source (not all 3). Do you have any knowledge on how to combine sources. I would like to get a UNION of all the data for criteria such as date range.

Any help would be appreciated :)
    Thanks

    Hi,

I have a requirement, I need to embed OBIEE Reports (Dashboard) and Answers in my web application. I already have a URL with Username / Password and other parameters appended to it. When this URL is run independently in the Browser, it works fine and displays the Executive Dashboard reports with multiple tabs i.e. Sales Stats, Order Management etc. and user can easily navigate through the tabs.
But the problem is when the URL is embedded in a page as inline frame and page is run, the first tab (Sales stats) is displayed properly, clicking on any other tab redirects the user to the Login page (This is within the web application context), I am not sure what is wrong?
Is there a way where in we can configure in OBIEE to remember login information? Or is it something to do with SSO stuff?

    Please provide your inputs.

    Thanks & Regards,
